New 4K visual system - Part 2 - Installation

New day. Firstly, we prepare the installation of the projectors. To do this, we first fit the projector holders to the projectors. Then the first projector is mounted. One thing we can say in advance. The overhead work left us with sore muscles the next day. Maybe we should do more sport... ;-)

Historically, we have a system of black profiles on the ceiling. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, the ceiling is so high that we needed a kind of platform to fix the projectors at a suitable height. Secondly, we didn't have much of an idea at the beginning where the projectors would end up. We wanted to remain flexible. Another argument is our lightweight ceiling. It consists of thin panels. From a structural point of view, we wanted to distribute the weight of the projectors over a larger area.

Firstly, we install the central projector. We pay particular attention to good alignment and clean centring. The view to the front should be as perfect as possible. Once the device has been mounted, we continue with the left-facing projector. It is important that the projectors have sufficient intersection over the entire vertical axis. Ideally, this should be around 30 cm. This intersection is crucial for the subsequent warping.
In our case, this means that the far corners of our projection surface are no longer covered. This was already apparent in the calculation, but is not a problem in practice. At 3.16 metres, the extremely small diameter of the projection surface is very special. We would not advise a commercial customer to do this. But rooms are often limited in size, especially in private homes. That's why it's a good idea to gain some experience with it.

Finally, there are three reasonably aligned projectors hanging from the ceiling and our body workout is coming to an end. We are very curious and start the simulator, even without warping. How cool is that? We now recognise grass on the ground. And birds in the air!

We will need to sort and arrange the cables. In the next blog post, we will look at the calculation of the visual and the calibration.
